The High Evolutionary is a geneticist who sought to create a perfect species out of what he viewed as lower life forms, and build his own utopia. He was responsible for creating 89P13, who provided the High Evolutionary with the key to his experiments, but he still planned to dispose of him and his fellow subjects. 89P13, taking the name Rocket, managed to escape and mauled the High Evolutionary's face, forcing him to wear a prosthetic face mask. High Evolutionary sought to acquire Rocket which put him into conflict with the Guardians of the Galaxy. He was defeated by the Guardians, although Rocket chose to spare his creator's life. As High Evolutionary's ship was about to self-destruct, Drax chose to carry High Evolutionary to safety, saving his life. After the ship's destruction, he was imprisoned on Knowhere.
