Mar-Vell was a noble Kree warrior and a decorated captain in the Imperial Kree Army, serving the vast, galaxy spanning Kree Empire He was originally dispatched to a comparatively backwater planet known as Earth to monitor the progress of its primitive inhabitants. To carry out his mission covertly, he adopted the identity of Dr. Walter Lawson, a deceased scientist whose death he had witnessed Over time, Mar-Vell developed a deep respect and empathy for humanity, ultimately defying his imperial orders. Rejecting his role as a mere observer or conqueror, he chose instead to become Earth’s protector, calling himself Captain Marvel after how Terrestrial humans had acclaimed him at least once
