After another 3 years, Hiddleston ultimately decided to leave the role, feeling like his time had come. Wanting to shake things up further, as well as having it feel like Classic Doctor Who, an older actor was going to be brought on to play the Doctor. Many candidates were considered, but ultimately, Christien Anholt was chosen to play the title role, and he was yet another huge fan of the classic series.
