With the X-Men in prison after being blamed for Mutant X's attack on New York, Kitty Pryde stages a daring rescue mission and manages to free her teammates in a massive jail-break. But as the X-Men plan their final battle with the mysterious Nathaniel Essex, Kitty has a disturbing vision of the future. In her vision, Essex rules America in the aftermath of the horrific "Gene Wars" between humans and Mutants, and an aging Kitty leads a new generation of X-Men in a rebellion against him.
