X-Men: Evolution is a 2009 superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team the X-Men. Directed by Jake Schreier and written by Joanna Calo, Michael Lesslie, Lee Sung Jin and Schreier, the film stars an ensemble cast led by Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Famke Janssen, Kelsey Grammer, Ben Foster, Kerr Smith, Rebecca Romijn, Ray Park, Evan Peters, Elizabeth Olsen, Vinnie Jones and Olivia Williams. It is the third film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). X-Men: First Class is set primarily in 2002 during the war on terror, and focuses on the relationship between Charles Xavier and Max Eisenhardt/Magneto, and the origin of their groups—the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants, respectively.
