X-Men 2: United is a 2014 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team the X-Men. Directed by Matthew Vaughn and written by Michael Dougherty, Dan Harris and David Hayter, from a story by Vaughn, Hayter and Zak Penn, it is the fourteenth installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the sequel to X-Men First Class (2009). It stars an ensemble cast including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Nicholas Hoult, Ben Hardy, Alexandra Shipp, Florian Munteanu, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Hugh Jackman, Rebecca Romijn, Vinnie Jones, January Jones, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston, Rose Byrne, Bruce Davison and Alan Rickman. The plot concerns the genocidal Colonel William Stryker leading an assault on Professor Xavier's school to build his own version of Xavier's mutant-tracking computer, Cerebro, to destroy every mutant on Earth and to save the human race from them, forcing the X-Men to team up with the Brotherhood of Mutants to stop Stryker and save the mutant race.
