When the original five X-Men fake their deaths to work in secret, they pose publicly as monster hunters while covertly rescuing mutants from Freedom Force and the Mutant Registration Act. Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Iceman, and Angel must reconcile old wounds, Jean's death and resurrection, Cyclops's abandoned family, while confronting a government and public that fear them. As X-Factor's double life unravels, they're forced to choose between the mask of "mutant hunters" and openly embracing who they are.
