Samuel Sterns is controlling Hulk while in his cell. Sterns causes Hulk to go back to savage form and the US government sends Hulk and his son Skaar to a universe of Hulks to keep them from being a threat(with new found tech) . Hulk and Skaar need to get back to their Earth to continue helping the other heroes, and yes, that mean Hulk and Skaar have to gain power among other Hulks by fighting their way to the top and teaming up with other Hulk variants to get back, defeat Sterns, and convince Banner's enemy President Ross that he is innocent and should be able to continue saving the world. (Banner finally embraces the alter ego and separates the minds because he knows Hulk is the strongest one there is)
