In the present day, Diana receives a distress signal she has not heard in two thousand years: the Olympian emergency frequency, transmitted by Hermes from a location that should be impossible — the ruins of the original Olympus, collapsed when the gods withdrew from active intervention in human affairs. Three Olympian minor gods have died — not faded, not withdrawn, but killed — within six months. The weapon being used against them is one that should not exist: a mortality curse woven from a fragment of the original Pandora's casket, which Diana personally helped seal three centuries ago. Someone has reopened it. The investigation leads Diana from the ruins of Athens through the fraying membrane between mortal and divine worlds, into a confrontation with an enemy that is neither god nor human but the deliberate creation of both: a being named Erion, forged from grief and divine abandonment by a mortal woman whose prayers were never answered. Erion does not want to destroy Olympus. Erion wants to be heard.
