Themyscira, 480 BC. Diana is three hundred years old — young by Amazonian measure — when a half-drowned Greek soldier named Theron washes onto the island's hidden shores. He carries with him a warning: the war god Ares has found a mortal general, a Spartan commander named Kreon the Scarred, and is feeding him divine rage to fuel a conquest that will annihilate three civilisations before it can be stopped. The Amazonian high council, led by Queen Hippolyta, forbids involvement — the Amazons were created to protect, not to interfere in mortal war. Diana disagrees. She leaves Themyscira for the first time, in secret, with Theron as her reluctant guide and her mother's stolen armour on her back. What follows is her brutal, exhilarating, heartbreaking education in the human world: its cruelty, its beauty, its stubborn refusal to be saved. She defeats Kreon. She cannot defeat what made him. And Ares, watching her, makes a decision about Diana that will echo for two thousand years.
