Wolverine: Origins is a 2009 American superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Wolverine. It is the 6th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Directed by James Mangold from a screenplay written by Alejandro González Iñárritu and Mark Bomback, based on the 2001 series Origin, written by Bill Jemas, Joe Quesada and Paul Jenkins, Wolverine vol. 2 by Chris Claremont and penciler John Buscema and Larry Hama, and the Weapon X story arc by Barry Windsor-Smith. It stars Hugh Jackman as Logan / Wolverine, alongside Ryan Hurst, Julia Jones, Clint Eastwood, William H Macy, Don Cheadle, Matthew Davis, Amanda Regretti, Donal Logue, Malcolm McDowell, Fan Bingbing, and Samuel L. Jackson. The film follows the entire life of Logan, from his childhood in the 1800s, to the eventual erasing of his memories in the Weapon X program, as a nearly 70 year feud between him and Sabertooth rages. The movie is also the first R-rated film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
