Set in the early 50’s: Suspecting that something is amiss with their father’s burial, teenager Kenneth Tyler and his sister Corrie venture to his gravesite and make a horrific discovery: their father, a whiskey bootlegger, was not actually buried in the casket they bought for him. Worse, they learn that the undertaker, Fenton Breece, has been grotesquely manipulating the dead. Description of Hollis Bookbinder:

An old man who lives in a rickety old house in the wild mountain area, hidden from proper society. He keeps goats, and dislikes human contact. As a young man, he murdered the man his wife ran away with, and spent 10 years in prison. He agrees to help Kenneth for a short while, and is the only lead to Ken’s whereabouts that Sutter allows to live, presumably for his bravery (holding a shotgun to Sutter’s face) and his very old age. Aged in his 80’s.
