Wary of growing extraterrestrial threats, Val decides to add sentient weapons to her hand of cards. She discreetly fakes Hayward's death and has him released from prison. He and Yelena recruit some of his former S.W.O.R.D. team, Dr. Helen Cho, Phineas Mason, William Ginter Riva, and Dr. Myron MacLain. Without vibranium, they bond Cho's synthetic tissue with MacLain's adamantium, combining it with Chitauri, Ultron Sentry, and Dark Elf tech as well as the confiscated Stark A.I.s E.D.I.T.H., T.A.D.A.S.H.I., and J.O.C.A.S.T.A., all stolen from Damage Control Deep Storage.
