Billionaire playboy, Bruce Wayne becomes a vigilante known as The Batman teams up with Homicidal detective James Gordon as they hunt a meticulous serial killer. The murderer, later identified as Edward Nygma aka The Riddler, executes his victims using elaborate, gruesome methods inspired by the seven deadly sins: gluttony, greed, sloth, lust, pride, envy, and wrath, leaving hints for Batman to track him down. As the bodies pile up in a bleak, perpetually rainy, Gotham, the detectives use literary clues from Nygma's riddles to track , only for him to unexpectedly turn himself in with two sins left to complete. Imprisoned in Arkham, Nygma reveals his final trap: explosives placed along Gotham’s seawalls detonate. The resulting water completely floods the city. As water pours into the streets, displaced citizens seek shelter at the indoor arena, Gotham Square Garden. Hidden in the rafters are several radicalized followers of the Riddler, armed with rifles to assassinate the newly elected D.A., Harvey Dent. Batman and Catwoman arrive at the arena just in time. Batman drops from the ceiling to fight off the snipers and protect the crowd, though he takes heavy gunfire and physical abuse. During the chaos, a live high-voltage electrical tower crashes into the flooded, shoulder-deep water where hundreds of terrified citizens are trapped. Risking his life, Batman cuts the dangling cable with a Batarang, absorbing a severe electrical jolt and plunging into the water. Batman emerges from the submerged ruins, ignites a red flare, and physically guides the surviving citizens through the water to safety.
