In 259AC this was proven false when the Band of Nine came to power over southwestern Essos and the Stepstones, backing a final claimant to the Iron Throne, Maelys Blackfyre, also known as Maelys the Monstrous. The Targaryen Throne pulled no punches, and sent everything they had to eliminate the threat of the Black Dragon once and for all.
