May 2002
A geological team is slaughtered on a remote asteroid, and seven-year-old Astraea's visions terrify her classroom as the Battlestar Galactica prepares for a presidential inspection. Commander Orin's sons, dutiful Ash and rebellious Elias, clash over Elias's plan to leave the service—until a reckless Viper duel strands them on an asteroid, where they discover a hidden Cylon fleet. The attack devastates New Caprica and kills Orin's wife, but the Cylons inexplicably withdraw, demanding surrender. As the fleet faces annihilation, Orin hatches a desperate plan to use New Caprica itself as a weapon—while a chilling truth waits among the Cylon leaders: Apollo lives.
