The DCEU begins with Tim Burton's Superman Lives (1999), a reboot of the Superman film series, followed by Wolfgang Petersen's Batman vs. Superman (2002), which served as a crossover of Burton's Batman and Superman film series to establish a shared universe. These films were followed by five films as the DCEU was expanded to include solo films for Ivan Reitman's Wonder Woman (2003), James Cameron's Aquaman (2003) and Shawn Levy's The Flash (2006) plus George Miller's two Justice League (2004 and 2005) movies. Following the release of The Flash in 2006, the DCEU would conclude as a new slate of DC projects were announced to be part of the DC Universe (DCU), a hard reboot and spiritual successor to the DCEU.
