When Evangeline Blackwood moves to Chicago in January of 1893 to study with famed architect Daniel Burnham ahead of the World Columbian Exposition, she expects to find the city and job of her dreams. But after a string of disappearances occurs leading up to the launch of the fair, she realizes the city is better off in her nightmares. Along with law student Henry Dubois, she begins to investigate them as the fair dawns in an effort to prevent Burnham’s masterpiece from failing. As she attempts to find the cause of the disappearances, she unwittingly puts herself in the path of one of the most prolific serial killers in American history.
