thecookieprincessSet in 1867, the main character is Charles Porter- A former Confederate soldier who, after the war, began his journey across the post-war United States with one goal- To kill all Indians. Why does he want to do it? The Indians abducted his wife and son, killed them and scalped them. Charles has sworn to himself that he will never allow this to happen, and he can even do his job for free, but he is so good at hunting that villagers and towns not only pay him a not inconsiderable amount, but in addition they have christened him “wolf hunter.” When he completes another assignment-he kills an Indian 55-year-old chief named Black Wolf, whose tribe has been lurking in the woods behind one of Louisiana's towns-he takes his reward and returns to his native Texas. Meanwhile, Black Wolf's 37-year-old son Gray Wolf takes command of the remnants of the slaughter survivors. He and his tribe track down Charles along the way, gathering allies, including surviving Indians. They reach the town of Austin, Porter's hometown, and want to slaughter the residents in retaliation. Meanwhile, the armed residents of this town will not allow themselves to be killed like animals. They face a battle in which many people die. Charles Porter is accused of luring the Indians here and condemned to a self-judgment by the residents who want to hang him. He is forced to flee. Meanwhile, the Indians, led by Gray Wolf, retreat to plan another attack and kill the inhabitants. Charles, while fleeing and devising a plan to stop his enemies, falls into the trap of the Indians-but led by a woman named Night Falcon. The woman decides to spare him, reveals to him that they are hiding from a hostile Indian tribe of the cruel Black Wolf of which they are a faction, about to suffer death for their unwillingness to kill white people. Although he is dead, the tribe is now ruled by his son Gray Wolf. Charles does what he never would have expected him to do- He forms an alliance with the Indians. This may be the only way to save the rest of the people of Austin.
