The Winter Soldier is a 2015 American Political thriller film directed by Kathryn Bigelow and written by Mark Boal. The film shows James Bucky Barnes after the events of the Winter Soldier and is hiding from the government, but is soon discovered by Secretary Thunderbolt Ross and his private military group called Shadow Company. Sebastian Stan, along with Florence Pugh, Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner and Harrison Ford reprise their roles, with Billy Murray, Kevin McKidd, Craig Fairbrass, Tom Cruise, John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Eric Bana, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Wyatt Russell, Mark Strong, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman in supporting roles. It was produced by Boal, Bigelow, and Megan Ellison, and independently financed by Ellison's Annapurna Pictures. The film premiered in Los Angeles on December 10, 2014, and had its wide release on January 11, 2015. The Winter Soldier received widespread critical acclaim for its acting, direction, screenplay, and editing, and was a major box office success, grossing $132 million worldwide.
