Set deep in the forests of what is now the Northeastern United States, The Wailing Woods follows Wenonah, a resourceful young woman of the Algonquin tribe, as her community struggles to survive a brutally harsh winter. Food is scarce, and whispers of a malevolent spirit—the Wendigo—grow louder with every passing night. The elders warn that those who succumb to greed, violence, or cannibalism will awaken the creature's wrath. When Henrik, a solitary and enigmatic European fur trader, stumbles into their village, tensions rise. Some believe he is a harbinger of doom, while others see him as an opportunity for salvation. Strange occurrences plague the community after his arrival—disappearances, gruesome deaths, and the haunting cries of a creature in the woods. Wenonah begins to suspect that the Wendigo is not just a story but a real, malevolent force tied to the land. As she uncovers the truth about her own family’s dark past and Henrik’s connection to the curse, Wenonah must decide whether to confront the Wendigo alone or risk her community falling victim to its insatiable hunger. Wenonah discovers that the Wendigo is not just a spirit of the forest but an embodiment of human greed and guilt, born from her ancestors’ betrayal of their sacred connection to the land. To destroy it, she must make the ultimate sacrifice, ensuring the cycle of greed is broken for good.
