Description of Tomas Endress:

Tomas is a classmate of Cia's, well-known in Five Lakes Colony for his charm and kindness. Like Cia's father, he is a genius in biological engineering, and hopes to enter that area of study after he passes the Testing. After Cia chooses to trust him, against her father's strict warning, the two develop a deep romantic relationship. Partway through the fourth phase of Testing, however, a brief accidental separation breeds mistrust between them as Tomas harbors a dark, painful secret and Will Donovan explicitly warns Cia to be on her guard.
