Story Plot

The Return of Bigfoot is a 2024 American neo-Western action thriller film co-produced and directed by Gareth Edwards, produced by Legendary Pictures, and written by David Twohy, and starring Anne Hathaway, Laurence Fishburne, Tom Hiddleston, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Kenneth Branagh, Bradley Cooper, Michael Caine, and James Badge Dale. Following the events of the first film, widowed hunter Allison Lane and her friends Victor Raymond and Will Carter seek out Bigfoot with the help of new hunters to avenge the murder of her husband, who was killed by Bigfoot in the last film. The film premiered in Los Angeles on February 29th 2024; it was released on March 17th, and it was a financial success upon release like its predecessor, grossing $918 million worldwide. The film received generally positive reviews with critics praising its visual style, soundtrack, ambition, performances (particularly Hathaway’s), action sequences, and the darker tone; many considered it to be a large improvement over the first film, although it was scrutinized for its lack of innovation and its predictable story. It was nominated for numerous Academy Awards and Golden Globe Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, and Hathaway was awarded a Saturn Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. A sequel, The Fall of Bigfoot — Part One was released two years later, while the final sequel was released on 2028; a spin-off entitled Skunk Ape was released a few months after the third film.

  • Plot: Two years after her husband's death, Allison Lane has become hardened by the trauma. She is often consoled by Victor Raymond, who has since become her next-door neighbor, but it has little effect as she is becoming bitter and vengeful.
  • Warren Quinto, the son of the late Danny Quinto, arrives with his father's friend Will Carter and selfish hunter Orlando Traver. Allison takes the leadership of the group and they begin tracking Bigfoot, the elusive sasquatch creature responsible for several murders, including her husband's. As they set up camp, Alfredo Lane, the older brother of Allison's husband, joins them. Allison sets up multiple cameras across the forest, and then she uses a drone to monitor the area.
  • Gabriel Phillips, a retired veteran hunter who has seen Bigfoot in his youth and having raised Allison after her parents both died of leukemia, joins the group as an advisor and acts as the moral compass for Allison. While Allison sleeps, she has a vision that dates back to her early days of her marriage to David, where he teaches her how to hunt a deer. They are attacked by a Black Bear, and David is badly injured, but Allison, smarter than the typical hunter, stabs the bear multiple times with no injury before it collapses and dies. Allison then wakes up, and remembers that she did in fact nurse David back to health shortly after the bear attack.
  • While using her drone to monitor the forest, Allison spots Bigfoot on tape in one of the cameras and to her surprise, Travers has betrayed them and has planned to kill Bigfoot for money. Before Bigfoot can be engaged into combat, Warren shoots Travers dead. Infuriated by the betrayal, Allison orders the camp to be moved higher into the mountains.
  • The group deduces that Bigfoot has set multiple traps, of which Alfredo is caught in one of them and Bigfoot fatally injures him; as he is about to kill the rest of them, Alfredo fires off a shot and distracts the creature long enough for the group to escape. After the camp is set up, Allison has another vision while she sleeps. David is teaching her the basics of hunting a deer, having been interrupted by the bear previously, and he tells her that holding her breath steadies her aim. She aims at her buck and fires an arrow, and David praises her for remembering how she practiced.
  • Allison wakes up and remarks that the vision is one of her "best memories" of David. As she sets traps, she spots Bigfoot and hides; just as Bigfoot is about to find her, he steps on one of her traps and is forced to run. Allison then runs back to the camp and enters her tent. Gabriel enters, and an emotional Allison asks him to tell her one of the bedtime stories he told her in her childhood; as he tells her, she has a vision of him telling her in her childhood years. As he finishes, she falls asleep. One final vision of David is shown, where he is teaching her how to set traps. He also tells her that he lost his own parents to a similar creature to Bigfoot, but says that "Revenge is in God's hands". The vision encourages her to let go of her rage and heed the wisdom of David's words. As she wakes up, she accepts that even though she will forever mourn his death, she can move on even after Bigfoot is dead.
  • Bigfoot spots the camp and charges straight towards it, but Allison anticipated this and fires a flare gun at him. She then sets him on fire by shooting a gas can, and then she inflicts permanent damage to him by shooting him several times in his chest with her revolver. Even though she is aware he will survive, she pushes him off the mountain, injuring him even more and leaving him defeated again. She then says "For David", and prepares to move the camp once more as the end credits roll.
