6 comments on The original Marvel Cinematic Universe

  • pococrazy17 To put it bluntly, I believe a selection of Marvel films from the early 2000s, until The New Mutants, released last year, could exist in the same continuity, which would've outdated Marvel Studios' shared universe by 8 years. Some of these films have no direct connection to each other, and the timeline is sort of a mess, with various continuity problems, but I'll do my best to explain it, and just remember that some things here aren't official, yet. First we're going to be ignoring the Earths applied to each film by the Marvel database, as they aren't made official by Marvel and are just randomly picked out and stuck on the various movies by site users, and also because this is only theoretical The starting point for this is Fox's X-Men series which are the first Marvel film of the 2000s, and they're pretty difficult to explain because of the various timelines, and one of my main goals here is to try and find out which films exist in what timeline. List of X-Men films (sorted by chronology) Original Timeline X-Men: First Class (2011) is a prequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) The films lead up to the 2000s trilogy (X-Men (2000), X2: X-Men United (2003) and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)) these films lead up to The Wolverine (2013) and X-Men: Days Of Future Past which is partly set 10 years after The Wolverine and partly 11 years after first Class because of time travel. New Timeline Days Of Future Past gives us a new timeline/revamp of the previous X-Men films that involve X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), and X-Men: Dark Phoenix, thus ending the X-Men series, but not the spinoffs. Deadpool (2016) , No Good Deed (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018) are canon to this new timeline as well as Once Upon A Deadpool (2018) - which is just Deadpool narrating Deadpool 2 to Fred Savage. there are 2 more films canon to this timeline, The New Mutants (2020), and Logan (2017) - which is the final film taking place in the timeline. It is unknown whether or not / how Deadpool 3 will fit in / be part of this timeline. The Connections A fun fact I learned a while back was that Hugh Jackman's Wolverine was supposed to make a cameo appearance in Spider-Man 2. Unfortunately, they couldn't find the costume on time, which means the appearance was never finalized. This is essentially a would have/ should have/ could have situation which is why I'm a bit stuck in this one., but theoretically we have: Spider-Man (2002) (debatable) Spider-Man 2 (2004) (debatable) and Spider-Man 3 (2007) (debatable) but the Ramiverse isn't over yet. After the Jackman appearance was scrapped, Thomas Jane was brought on to make a cameo as his character Punisher from his solo outing earlier that year. Jane, too, was unfortunately unable to make an appearance in the film as his character, so then his stunt double filled in for him, which is how: The Punisher (2004) and Punisher: Dirty Laundry (2012) are connected to Rami's Spider-Man universe. but here's how the X-Men universe gets bigger Another fun fact I learned a while back was that Fox was planning on making on making an X-Men/Fantastic 4/ Daredevil crossover film. The 2000s X-Men roster would have most deftly returned but this is another would have/ could have/ should have situation. A problem with this is that the writers were hired to write the script in 2011, the same year Chris Evans portrayed Captain America for the first time, so it's unknown whether or not the cast of the 2000s series would have returned. Another problem with this is Daredevil, the 2003 film would've been over 10 years old by the time the crossover came to completion, but there could be a chance that Ben Affleck would've reprised his role as Matt Murdock, so I can theoretically add Daredevil (2003) (debatable) and Elektra (2005) (debatable) Now we return to Fox's 2000s Fantastic Four series. In the first film, Jackman's Wolverine made a cameo that appeared in the film's extended cut. Since nothing in the extended cut of F4 contradicts anything, I can add Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer (2007) to the list of X-Men's (currently unsure which timeline's) canon.
