In the Marvel Universe, mutants are humans who are born with a genetic trait called the X-gene which grants them natural superhuman abilities. Due to their differences from the majority of humanity, mutants are subject to prejudice and discrimination and many X-Men stories feature social commentary on bigotry and justice. The X-Men have fought against a variety of enemies, including villainous mutants, human bigots, mystical threats, extraterrestrials, and malevolent artificial intelligences.

    In the movie’s climax, after a tough battle The Mutants have successfully subdued The Purifiers & Bastion. As Charles goes with Rictor and some of the others to free the mutants held in captivity, Erik stays back and watches Stryker. Erik begins to interrogate Stryker only to be antagonized into murdering him…right as Charles returns with the others. A heated argument ensues between the two resulting in a schism. Erik begins to give a grand speech where he decides to denounce with his “human name” and invites all who are willing to join his Brotherhood. Mystique & Lorna step forward along with a few of the newly freed mutant captives (Pyro, Mastermind, Gambit & Rogue). After Magneto & The Brotherhood leave, Charles turns back to look at all who remain as helicopters swirl overhead and says “To me, my mutants”. In the post credits stinger; we see shadowy figures discussing this new mutant threat in the US and arrive to the conclusion that it might be time to wake “him” up as the camera slowly reveals a tank with Weapon X floating in it.
