The Mortal Instruments is the first series in the The Shadowhunter Chronicles written by Cassandra Clare and consists of 6 books beginning with City of Bones. This series follows Clary Fray, a teenage girl in New York City, who learns she is not human but a shadowhunter: a human that possesses angel blood. She is thrown into the world of shadow hunters who help govern and police the mythical creatures like vampires, fairies and werewolves that exist hidden amongst humanity.
