Story Plot

The Marksman is a 2025 American military science fiction action film directed by Joseph Kosinski from a screenplay by Neill Blomkamp and James Cameron. Produced by Legendary Pictures, The Stone Quarry, and RatPac-Dune Entertainment, it is the first installment in The Marksman trilogy. The film stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sasha Calle, Terry Crews, Gina Rodriguez, Josh Brolin, Matt Nable, Sharlto Copley, Ken Watanabe, Laurence Fishburne, and Michael Douglas. In the film, a retired army ranger and his wife are accidentally transported into the future year of 2035, where their daughter is a sergeant in a Resistance Army fighting against an evil alien empire. The Marksman was released in theaters on February 28th, 2025; it received universal acclaim from critics and audiences, who praised its storytelling, direction, writing, special effects, ambition, the performances of Abdul-Mateen and Calle, action sequences, cinematography, Hans Zimmer's musical score, visual style, and emotional weight. It was also a box-office success, grossing $415 million worldwide and becoming the most successful launch item in Amazon Prime Video. A sequel entitled The Marksman: A Veteran's Child was released one year later.

    Plot: Retired US army ranger Mason O'Connor is a construction worker who is respected by his colleagues for his service in the Iraq War. He often tells his thirteen-year-old daughter, Amara, about his selfless actions during his service, and she is always extremely fascinated by his tales, as she knows them to be true and hopes to follow in her father's footsteps.

    One day at work, Mason and his wife Emilia, who both left Amara in the care of Danny, Mason's brother, are accidentally transported into the future after discovering a strange device, and they are separated by a gravity pull. Mason lands in a military base while Emilia lands in a destroyed New York City; it becomes clear that they were taken to the future, and are now trapped within it. Emilia finds an old bunker and hides within it, while Mason is about to be arrested by the Resistance soldiers occupying the base he is in. However, the soldiers are ordered to stand down by one of their colonels, who happens to be Danny. Danny welcomes his brother with open arms and takes him to the sergeant, who is Amara in her adulthood. Amara is tearfully overjoyed to see her father and embraces him, before she gives him a tour of the base. Amara easily forms the bond she had with Mason when she was a child, but also explains to him that when she was sixteen, he died protecting her when the war between the Resistance and an Alien Empire had started in 2028; she reveals that he was transported in a day that started ten years after the war had begun.

    Learning that Emilia is in New York City, Mason joins the Resistance and equips their weapons and gear before heading to the city and rescuing Emilia. Upon returning to the base with his wife intact, Amara reunites with her mother, who then joins their ranks. Roger McConnell, Emilia's older half-brother and the leader of the Resistance, gives his sister the rank of captain at the behest of Mason and Amara, and the threw are sent with Danny to infiltrate an operations headquarters owned by the aliens to find a bomb to take back to the past and prevent the war from ever happening.

    They manage to retrieve the bomb, but several of the reinforcements are killed, including Ethan Breck, Michael Wilson, and McConnell. When they retreat to their largest base of operations, Mason takes charge of the Resistance and oversees the construction of several copies of the bomb. Once they are finished however, the base is attacked by the aliens, and many of the soldiers perish, while Hiroyuki Hokuna sacrifices himself to finish building a device to send the survivors to the past and use the bombs to prevent the war. Another sergeant, Lethabo Salazar, unmasks himself as one of the aliens, having been instructed to prevent the Resistance from traveling back in time so they could win the war rather than the aliens. Amara escapes with Emilia and Danny, but Mason stays behind and kills Salazar at the cost of his own life, while the world explodes just as the portal closes. Back in the present time, Emilia introduces Amara to her younger self, while Danny meets his own. Amara soons breaks down into tears as she realizes she has lost her father a second time; her younger self comforts her, which gives her the courage to find the cause of the war.

    Traveling with the older and younger Danny, as well as the younger versions of Breck, Wilson, and McConnell, they land in the Himalayas, where they find the alien ship that started the entire war. The younger Danny is killed after accidentally waking Salazar, who then attacks the rest of the squad; they manage to blow up the ship and kill all of the aliens while narrowly escaping, but Salazar escapes and a fierce battle erupts. After the squad is eventually overpowered, the older Danny throws a grenade towards Amara, who catches it and throws it at Salazar before shooting it and fatally injuring him. She then shoots him in the face, finishing him off before returning with the others to New York and reuniting with her younger self and Emilia.

    Emilia offers to let Amara stay in the present time, which she accepts, knowing that the war will never happen now, while Danny decides to stay in the house his younger self lived in. Before the end credits roll, Amara vows to fight whatever war that may come next.

    So guys, if you're wondering why Danny's older self wasn't erased from the timeline when the younger version died, it's because they the future didn't exist when the surviving soldiers went back to the present time. Just thought I'd let you know why he didn't get erased LOL!!!!
