The Kim Sisters is a six-part biopic miniseries following the incredible journey of sisters Sue and Ai-ja and their cousin Mia Kim as they go from war-torn Seoul to the Las Vegas stage, achieving unprecedented fame as pioneers of Korean pop in America. Growing up amidst the devastation of the Korean War, the sisters learned to sing and play instruments from their mother, who was a well-known singer and actress herself. Driven by a shared hope for survival and escape from poverty, the sisters pour their talent into music, performing for U.S. soldiers and quickly gaining local fame in Seoul. The series follows their discovery by an American talent scout and their journey across the Pacific to a country where they speak no English and have no support network, relying solely on their art and each other. Despite cultural challenges and industry prejudice, they rise to become a national sensation, performing regularly on The Ed Sullivan Show and headlining in Las Vegas—a feat unheard of for Asian performers in that era. Yet, behind the glamour lies a story of hardship, resilience, and sacrifice.
