A quiet, frost-covered orchard. Mara finds a boy with glassy skin and dead eyes. He does not speak, but when she touches him, she sees visions — fragments of her own past and things that haven’t yet happened. Phones crackle when he's near. Something is off in town: time skips, animals disappear, and a woman speaks backward in the church. Mara tries to communicate with the boy. He hums a tune that no one remembers but causes people to cry. When played on piano, it opens a literal crack in Mara’s wall revealing an eye watching her. Aubrey Plaza begins to see people she doesn’t remember knowing — including a man who claims to be her brother. But she never had one. The boy vanishes for three days and returns through a sealed window. Inside his pockets: a journal written in Mara’s handwriting from the 1980s. A local school, long burned down, appears fully intact. Mara and the boy enter a room with a trampoline — bouncing triggers hallucinations of alternate lives they might have lived.
