  • jmontgomery Hey, I'm sorry, but I gotta be real. I dont want there to be an angle put on this, because I am all for diversity in casting but Danny Rand has to be white. It's engrained into his character. Literally, the point of Iron Fist as a character is that Danny Rand is an outsider. He comes from the pinnacle of not just American Excess but also American Privilege, its not about Martial Arts. And believe me, I understand how insane that sounds but its true. It's the opposite of rags to riches, its riches to rags. Even his upbringing in K'un L'un is deeply influenced by his race. The same can be said of the significance of him becoming worthy of the Iron Fist, or at least it was until they introduced Orson Randall. The character of Iron Fist is all about being an outsider, from a boy raised in ivory towers surrounded by riches to becoming a (controversial, even in K'un L'un) master martial artist whose world view not just recontextualized but remolded by his new surroundings, to a zen-barefoot billionaire. And, mainly the point is is that Finn Jones genuinely is a good casting. He literally lives like Danny would in real-life, not to mention Iron Fist Season 2 was a vast improvement on Season 1 (mainly due to the axeing of walking tele-carcinogen Scott Buck). And also the fact this whole story is solely a love-letter to Marvel Television. I love that corner of the MCU, and yes I consider it canon to the proper MCU. It was made becuase I never (and still don't) believe that Marvel TV will ever get a proper send-off or finale, so-to-speak. So while I understand Season 1 was trash, Season 2 is better and Jones was not the problem. Is Iron Fist Martial Arts based? Yes. But does that warrant an asian actor? No. Not to say it'd be a bad choice, but it's frankly antithetical to the character as well as a complete misunderstanding of the Living Weapon. I would indeed be okay with a non-white casting but, in my opinion, it just doesn't work with what I'm going for. I understand if you don't understand or agree but it doesnt work for me or my project as it stands
