Upon regaining consciousness from a coma induced by a car accident, Johnny Smith discovers that many years have elapsed, and he has developed psychic abilities. Devastated by the realization that his girlfriend has moved on, Johnny grapples with his newfound and troubling powers, which enable him to glimpse a person's future through a simple touch. After making contact with Greg Stillson, an ambitious politician, Johnny foresees the peril associated with Stillson's ascent and decides that he must take action to eliminate him.
