Story Plot

The Call Of The Snow is a 2025 American neo-Western action thriller film written, co-produced, and directed by Adam Wingard. Produced by Legendary Pictures and The Stone Quarry and distributed by Lionsgate Films, it is the first installment in the Western Snow trilogy. The film stars Sasha Calle, Patrick Wilson, Jessie Eisenberg, Ariana Greenblatt, Michael Shannon, Vincent D'Onofrio, Asher Angel, Demi Moore, Brooklynn Prince, Laurence Fishburne, Christoph Waltz, and Samuel L. Jackson. Set in modern day 2025, a young but experienced ex-military sniper teams up with two cowboys to rescue her daughter from a powerful crime family, though this becomes difficult when they are blamed for a horrific massacre and chased by a German gangster sent by the same crime family. The Call Of The Snow had its world premiere at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival on January 17th, 2025, and it opened in theaters on February 6th; it received universal acclaim and was praised for Wingard's direction, visuals, action sequences, and Calle, Wilson, and Eisenberg's performances, though the violent content and the film's usage of dehumanizing words drew controversy. The film grossed $1.869 billion, and it is now the highest-grossing Western film and the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, overtaking Deadpool & Wolverine. Two sequels are in development with Calle, Wilson, Greenblatt, Waltz and Jackson set to reprise their roles in both.

  • Plot: A massacre near Cody, Wyoming becomes very public and news about the whole crime is spread across the globe. Many suspect that the Santoro Crime Family, ran by Harvey Santoro, is responsible for this.
  • Five years later in 2025, ex-military sniper Bailey Morgan, who lives with her daughter and best friend Gracie, is frequently informed by her godfather Michael "Mike" Roman, a retired sheriff's deputy, of any further news concerning the massacre in case she and Gracie are ever targeted next. Meanwhile, cowboys Adam Harris and Wade Callahan are both often pressed by the FBI to help finish the massacre's case. Wanting nothing more to do with law enforcement and the government especially, Adam and Wade refuse, as they are tired of fighting regardless if the Santoro family was involved.
  • While Bailey is out hunting, Gracie is kidnapped by two masked men who leave a ransom note demanding a "long overdue" payment of $465. Upon returning home, Bailey is confronted by four other men. Just as they are about to decapitate her, Bailey dodges the attack and swiftly kills all of them in self-defense. Finding the note, she is confused, but nonetheless makes the choice to find Gracie. Bailey gears up and equips her hat and trench coat before riding away on her black horse, Rachel. Following the tracks made by the car Gracie was taken in, Bailey begins her own investigation, as she despises law enforcement. However, she realizes that she is being followed by more assailants. After a fierce gunfight following an ambush she sets for her attackers, she emerges victorious and interrogates the only surviving enemy. He reluctantly admits that he and the other men were all sent by the Santoro family, and this causes Bailey to realize that they were behind the kidnapping. She kills the survivor and later encounters Adam and Wade, who offer to help her when she tells them what happened. Bailey accepts.
  • The trio continue the investigation in Cody, where they find Gracie's jacket, something that Bailey gave to her as a birthday present. Knowing Gracie would never leave it unless she knew she could not escape easily, Bailey searches the jacket and finds a radio Gracie had discreetly found. However, despite knowing what to do now, the trio find themselves in a compromising position; because they are in the exact spot where that massacre has taken place, they are blamed. Narrowly evading capture, the trio make their way to a frozen water gorge
  • Gracie is brought before Harvey himself, who demands that she is left alone and given all the comforts of home, as he does not intend to kill or even interrogate her. Bailey explains her military background to Adam and Wade, and they in turn reveal their own. Adam was a green beret who served two tours in Iraq, and Wade was a marine who was discharged for his violent temper, something he is deeply ashamed of. Continuing the investigation, the trio meet with Bailey's family and her stepfather, Stephen McCallum. While Bailey's mother Lorrie refuses to help, as does Stephen, due to believing that this mission is suicide, Bailey's younger half-siblings Ethan and Cassie go with them.
  • The group consult Bailey's father, Harold, and tell him of Gracie's kidnapping. He provides them a clue as to where Harvey lives. Arriving at the crime family's house, they find that Harvey is not home. Fortunately, Gracie was left alone per Harvey's instructions, and Bailey reunites with her. Gracie explains that the ransom letter was a lie, though with that being said, Gracie affirms that the payment of $465 is still wanted. She also reveals that she has seen Harold talking to Harvey a few times, indicating that Bailey's trust in him is misplaced.
  • Harold confronts Harvey about kidnapping his granddaughter and chastises him for framing Bailey as the culprit behind the massacre, telling him that this was not part of the plan. Meanwhile, Stephen and Lorrie are convinced of the truth when Mike arrives at their home, telling them of Bailey's success in rescuing Gracie. Stephen sends an anonymous call to the police, and they arrest Harvey's entire family, clearing Bailey and the others from the case.
  • Despite being pursued by a German gangster sent by Harvey, named Aldrich Krüger, Bailey and the others outrun him. However, the next day, Krüger catches up and confronts the group. Bailey calls him a Nazi and says he is not worth her time, provoking him into fighting her. She knocks him out cold with her rifle before riding with the others and going back to Cody so they may confront Harvey and Harold. When Krüger chases them again after he wakes up, Mike suddenly appears and distracts Krüger long enough for the group to leave Cody when they discover that the tracks from Harvey's car exit from the city.
  • Mike defeats Krüger and locks him in his car before following close behind the group after he buys a new horse. Bailey and the others, now joined by Mike, arrive at a large house where Harvey and Harold are located. Entering the house, they are welcomed inside and join the two men at the dining room. Harvey reveals that the letter he wrote demanding the money was not for Bailey, but rather for Gracie's father, with whom he made a deal to pay him in exchange for having his house being left alone. Bailey reveals that she divorced the man long ago for being unfaithful and for showing no love for Gracie. Harvey demands the money regardless, but Wade, finally having enough of Harold's own demands and his arrogance, kills Harold with Bailey's consent. Harvey fatally shoots Wade in retaliation and a violent firefight erupts. Although the group emerges victorious, Ethan is killed saving Gracie's life, while Wade bleeds out and dies as he gives Bailey his old combat knife. Harvey swears revenge and pursues the group with reinforcements.
