Eccentric cable installer Chip Douglas tries to form a friendship with customer Steven Kovacs by providing him with premium channels for free. When Steven rejects Chip's persistent desire for companionship, Chip transforms from a somewhat quirky acquaintance into a full-blown psycho stalker. Although it becomes increasingly clear to Steven that the cable installer poses a threat, persuading his friends, family, and the authorities of this fact proves to be a completely different challenge.
