David was a shepherd, warrior, psalmist, and the second king of Israel, chosen by God despite being the youngest son of Jesse. He is famously remembered for defeating Goliath with faith in God, but his life also included great victories, suffering, repentance, and serious moral failures. David became a central figure in God's covenant with Israel, with God promising that his royal line would endure. In Christian belief, David is especially significant because Jesus Christ is the promised descendant of David, the Messiah and King whose kingdom ultimately fulfills God's promises to him.
