  • The decisive victory of Napoleon's Grande Armée at Austerlitz not only brought a swift end to the War of the Third Coalition, but also had an impact on the organization of state units throughout Central Europe at the time, especially in the Holy Roman Empire. On 4 December, Napoleon and Francis I met at the Burnt Mill near Násedlovice. Here the two monarchs agreed on a truce between France and Austria, which was signed at the Slavkov castle on 6 December. The peace was concluded on 26 December in Pressburg. Nine months after the signing of the treaty, on 6 August 1806, the Holy Roman Empire ceased to exist and Emperor Francis was left with the title of Emperor of Austria. The Russians withdrew back to their territory, but Alexander refused to conclude a peace treaty with Napoleon. These achievements, however, did not establish a lasting peace on the continent. Prussian worries about growing French influence in Central Europe sparked the War of the Fourth Coalition in 1806.
