In the past, Angelica Garcia wakes up in a metal room, with 6 other people around her. They all know each other, as they were working on finding the identity of the eponymous Jigsaw killer. Angelica deduces that they must be in one of his traps. They hear a voice tell them that the room will fill up with water, and the only way to get out is to activate a kill switch that is hidden behind one of the many metal panels. Leane instantly freaks out, as drowning is her biggest fear. As the room starts to fill up, Jason finds the switch and saves them, Leane traumatized. Back in the present, Detective Tapp finds a clue that suggests that John Kramer was never really dead. She also finds out that her rival, Harlan, is also working on the case. In the past, the kids find themselves in a room that resembles a chessboard. A voice comes on saying that they will have to “win the match” to survive. They play life-size chess, but when Nicholas makes an illegal move, he is sliced in half. The others manage to finish the game, and walk out alive, stopping to mourn Nicholas’s death. Jason hints that he had kept many secrets from them, and he is the only one who knows. This makes Jessica suspicious, as Nicholas had been her boyfriend. In the present, Detective Tapp finds the mutilated body of a young girl who has a piece of her skin cut out in the distinct shape of a puzzle piece. This seemingly confirms her suspicions, and she gets to work tracking down Kramer’s base. In the past, the next trap is a lie-detector test. Jason volunteers to do it. They are instructed to ask three questions, and if the person lies, then they will be electrocuted. The group decide to ask questions they know will have true answers, but Jessica asks him if Nicholas had been cheating on her, and he begrudgingly says yes. When she asks him if it was with one of them, he refused to answer. After a tense 5 minutes of trying to get him to answer, he answers no, and is electrocuted to death. A stunned Marcus breaks down, and after a couple minutes, they leave. The next trap is a shooting range, as the voice instructs them that to move on, one of them will have to spill blood. After yelling over who it should be, Jessica tearfully volunteers, and stands at the shooting range. Kyle grabs the gun and shoots her multiple times, killing her instantly. Angelica reprimands him for being unnecessarily violent, as Leane grows suspicious. In the present day, Harlan informs Tapp that he knows who the killer is, and she begrudgingly accepts to team up with him. They arrive at a warehouse, where they find a tearful and blood-stained Angelica. Back in the past, the remaining partners arrive at the same warehouse. A Billy puppet appears, and tells Angelica “You know what to do”. She then kills Marcus and Leane brutally. It is revealed that Angelica has been one of Jigsaw’s apprentices the whole time, and was proving herself to Jigsaw, who is also revealed to be none other than a scarred Mark Hoffman. Angelica chases down Kyle, and supposedly stabs him to death. The Billy puppet disappears, and Angelica cries over the loss of her friends, bringing us back to present day. Angelica tells the detectives that it wasn’t the Jigsaw killer, and reveals how much she has disguised her and Mark’s tracks. As she is carted off to the hospital to treat her wounds, she smiles at her victory.
