16 year old high school sophomore Peter Parker struggles with poverty, school bullies, and his quiet feelings for classmate Gwen Stacy. When a bite from an escaped, genetically altered bio-tech spider grants him extraordinary arachnid abilities, Peter first uses his new gifts for quick cash and fame — until a tragic act of arrogance leads directly into the murder of his beloved Uncle Ben.
