This look at the classic Stephen Sondheim musical thriller puts the subtext concerning the Industrial Revolution and class warfare introduced in the original Harold Prince staging front and center, visually resetting the show in Jazz/Blues Age New Orleans in the waning days of Prohibition, circa the 1930s, with new musical arrangements reflecting the sounds of that era and racially conscious casting.
