John Corben begins as a man grateful for a second chance at life, believing Lex Luthor has saved him when everyone else had given up. As his body is slowly stripped of every sensation that made him human, gratitude turns into grief, and grief becomes rage that he directs toward Superman because it's easier than facing the truth about who destroyed him. By the end, he's a tragic man who chooses hatred over healing, convinced violence is the only thing he has left.
