Along with his assault on Superman, Luthor also buys the Daily Planet, as punishment for the criticism of himself and LexCorp that the Planet has become known for, and subsequently shuts the paper down, firing almost all of its staff members, but isn't able to own it for long before he's forced to draw back after Lois Lane and Clark Kent expose his shady businesses, throwing him into a series of court cases speculated to drain Luthor of almost all he's got.
