(First appeared in Tales of Suspense #39 in 1963 and was created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, Don Heck, and Jack Kirby). Tony Stark was a wealthy businessman who designed advanced weaponry and sold them to the United States military. One day, when he was testing a weapon in Vietnam, he was kidnapped by communists and forced to build them weapons. Instead of building them weapons, Tony built himself a mechanical suit of armor and used it to escape, later donning it as Iron Man.
