Dick Leitsch is the brilliant, gentility-bound diplomat of the pre-Stonewall era whose world is upended by the very revolution he helped set the stage for. As the charismatic president of the New York Mattachine Society, Dick pioneered institutional change through strategic civil disobedience—most famously leading the 1966 "Sip-In" at Julius' Bar to dismantle the discriminatory laws that kept gay bars illegal. But Dick’s most profound narrative hour strikes on the first night of the Stonewall uprising. Rushing to the scene after hearing a late-night broadcast, he becomes the first gay journalist to document the riots as they happen. Armed only with a notepad, Dick watches the neat, respectable legal framework he built collide with the raw, uncontrollable fire of the streets, forcing him to decide if he will control the narrative or let the kids rewrite history.
