Earth, 23rd century: Johnnie Rico has just turned eighteen, and can finally enlist in the Army to complete his two-year service, after which he will become a citizen with the right to vote. At the urging of a friend, Rico enlists in the mobile infantry. After a harsh period of training at Camp Arthur Currie, under the command of Sergeant Zim, Rico became a qualified soldier. Meanwhile, an alien species that looks like a giant insect attacks the Earth with unusual violence, turning the city of Buenos Aires into a mass of rubble. It's time for Johnnie Rico and his companions to prove themselves in real combat... in space.
