J'son explains that after Star-Lord destroyed his political power on Spartax, he turned to organized crime to rebuild an empire from the shadows and ruin Peter's life. Refusing to leave Peter to his fate, Kitty Pryde travels across the galaxy to infiltrate Mister Knife’s orbital fortress. They turn the dangerous prison break into their very first face-to-face date, using Kitty’s phasing powers and Peter’s element guns to fight off waves of mercenaries before escaping together. Mister Knife acquires the Black Vortex, an ancient celestial mirror that unlocks raw, godlike potential in anyone who submits to it. He uses it to empower his "Slaughter Squad" and aligns with Thanos’s ruthless son, Thane. Mister Knife uses Thane’s amber-encasing powers, amplified by the Black Vortex, to freeze the entire planet of Spartax in a solid chunk of amber, effectively enslaving the planet. Star-Lord, Kitty, the X-Men, Nova, and other space heroes launch a desperate counter-attack. To save his home planet, Kitty submits to the Black Vortex, transforming into a cosmic entity capable of phasing the entire planet out of the amber coating. With his plans shattered and the cosmic power neutralized, J'son is defeated, and Spartax is liberated. After surviving the cosmic ordeal, Peter proposes to Kitty Pryde under the open stars, and she says yes. Touched by how Peter saved them from his tyrant father, the citizens of Spartax refuse to let him leave. They officially elect Peter Quill as the Emperor of Spartax.
