A young business widow woman who is the winner of the 2018 Squid Game. She earlier joined the games with her husband to win the prize money to save her father's company. She tried to find a way to make sure both she and her husband survives, but failed miserably when he was killed anyway and she ended up as the winner, which depressed her. She joins Gi hun by sneaking in as one of the VIPs to help stop the games and get revenge on the higher ups responsible for her husband's death. Due to his failure to protect Sae-byeok in the final round of games last year, Gi Hun feels responsible for Hyun Jae's safety and becomes close with her.
