A mysterious crime lord known as Mister Negative rises through New York’s underworld, using his power to corrupt minds and bend others to his will. As Spider-Man struggles to contain a growing wave of violence, he crosses paths with Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer by day and the vigilante Daredevil by night. Reluctant allies at first, the two heroes discover they are facing a common enemy whose influence reaches deeper than either of them realized. Mister Negative’s most devastating move is personal: he takes control of Peter’s closest friend, Ned Leeds, twisting him into the volatile Hobgoblin. Forced to fight someone he loves, Spider-Man is pushed to his emotional breaking point. The conflict culminates at a massive mayoral rally for Wilson Fisk, which Mister Negative intends to turn into a public massacre to seize control of the city. Spider-Man and Daredevil stop the attack, but at a terrible cost—Ned dies during the battle, briefly breaking free of Mister Negative’s control before sacrificing himself.
