Outside the mask, Peter's relationship with Gwen grows stronger than ever. Realizing that Spider-Man has become inseparable from who he truly is, Peter entrusts Gwen with the secret of his identity. Though raised to distrust the masked vigilante by her father, Captain George Stacy, Gwen chooses to stand beside Peter, becoming his closest confidant and fiercest defender. With occasional help from Daredevil, Moon Knight, and the elusive Black Cat, Spider-Man battles crime across the city while struggling to hold together the life he desperately wants to keep. But not everyone is moving forward. Haunted by the downfall of his family, Harry Osborn spirals deeper into isolation after Norman Osborn's imprisonment. As Peter distances himself out of guilt, Harry is left with believing he has lost everything that ever mattered. After Spider-Man finally cures Dr. Connors and saves his mentor from the Lizard's monstrous alter ego, Peter believes the worst is behind him. Instead, the season ends with an even darker revelation. Escaping from prison, Norman Osborn returns to his son - not with love, but with contempt. Rejecting Harry as a failure, Norman abandons his former identity, declaring that the man he once was is gone. "Norman is dead. Your friend Peter Parker made sure of that." As Norman dons the Goblin mask once more, Peter's greatest enemy is finally born.
