In the comics, Morbius is an award winning scientist who suffered from a rare blood disease. He attempted to cure himself by using a combination of electro shock therapy and vampire bats. The treatment instead turned him into a vampire-like creature, giving him superhuman strength and speed, but forcing him to drink blood to survive.
