One way to make a character look large without looking intimidating is to give them a pear-shaped body: large below the waist (hips, belly, butt), but relatively narrow above the waist (chest, shoulders). Whereas a Top-Heavy Guy with big chest and shoulders and narrow hips looks strong and menacing (though may actually have a gentle personality), a pear-shaped being will almost always be a Gentle Giant. The soft, rounded shapes give a friendly appearance in contrast with Evil Is Angular. The pear shape is sometimes duplicated with the character's head, with chubby cheeks and a large chin but a small cranium.
