I chose Sally over Elise not because it would make the kiss less disgusting, but because in this universe, we already know her from the start. She's the princess of her kingdom of Mobotropolils, she's much closer to Sonic, and she's more smarter and active than your typical princess. I think the scene where she blows out the candle would be much more heartbreaking, seeing how she'll forget Sonic. One other thing I would do is have a mysterious figure named "Julian" responsible for the flames of disaster that took place when she was little.
